Viruses become active only when they are inside a host otherwise they are inert.What might be the reason for this?

Answer: viruses are smaller  than bacteria they are not even a full cell thy are simply genetic material DNA or RNA packaged  inside of a protien coating

Explanation: They need to use another cell structure to reproduce. This means they cant survive unless they are living inside something else (such as person, animal or plant). viruses can only live for a very short time outside other living cells.
