Hepatitis is a kind of viral infection which causes inflammation of the liver. There are 5 different types of hepatitis each of which is caused by different types of viruses.

Hepatitis A is caused by hepatitis A virus and is transmitted by contaminated food and water.

Hepatitis B is caused by hepatitis B virus and is spread by contact with infectious body fluids such as vaginal secretions and semen.

Hepatitis C is caused by hepatitis C virus and is also transmitted through sexual contact.

Hepatitis E is a waterborne disease caused by hepatitis E virus. It is found in areas with poor sanitation and results from ingesting faecal matter that contaminates the water supply.
