let time= x

if vishal finished in 1/4 of time= 1/4*x= 1/4x

if abdul finished in 1/5 of time= 1/5*x= 1/5x

now to compare we need to find the LCM of denominators
= 20

( you can show the working on your own)

now we have 5/20x and 4/20x
and since 5/20x is bigger, vishal took more time.

Answer:

Abdul took more time

Step-by-step explanation:

Vishal& Abdul sat for an examination. Vishal finished his examination earlier by 1/4of the Total time and Abdul finished earlier by1/5 of the total time. Who took more time in writing examination?

Ans:

Vishal finished his examination earlier by ¼ of total time

Abdul finished his examination earlier by ¼ of total time

Let total time is x

Therefore, time taken by vishal in finishing the examination = x – x/4

= (4x-x)/4

= 3x/4

Also, time taken by vishal in finishing the examination = x – x/5

= (5x-x)/5

=4x/5

This means, time taken by vishal is 3x/4 and by Abdul= 4x/5

Now, LCM of 4 and 5 is 20

(3x/4)* 5/5 = 15x/20

(4x/5)*4/4 = 16x/20

Since, 16x/20 > 15x/20 therefore Abdul took more time.
