A case study of West Bengal village:

It was reported by village farmers that rice is the major food grains cultivated by them.

It was also reported that mastered.

Other food crops cultivated by them include maize, pulses, oilseeds, wheat, barley is also produced by them.

But the amount is marginal.

West Bengal is the largest producer of rice in India with an annual output of around 16.1 million tonnes in FY 2015-16.

Ration shops generally have weekly stock of rice.

Wheat is very rarely supplied. Ration shop distributes rice to the villagers as per Government BPL scheme rate @Rs2/kg.

It was revealed that currently, most rations shops do not have facilities to store grains and other items for long durations.
