The Taj at Agra is the most famous historical building in India. It is known all over the world as a dream in marble. It was built by Shah J ah an. the famous Mughal emperor, in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It was built about three centuries ago. More than twenty thousand masons and workers built it in about twenty two years. After the completion of the monument, as the story goes, their hands were chopped off, so that they could not build the pair of the Taj.

During the last three centuries, the glory of the Taj has not dimmed the least. It still commands the first position among the buildings of the world. It stands outside the city of Agra on the banks of river, Yamuna. In order to reach the main building, one has to pass through a huge gateway of red stones. There are symmetrical cypress trees surrounding the building.

Historical place and my experience :

Taj Mahal

I went to the Taj Mahal with my family on Sunday. For us, seeing the architectural wonder that we had read and heard so much about in literature was a real-life dream come true. We began to feel elated that our nation has produced such a great type of art.

Then, our history instructor began to describe how Shahjahan, the Mughal emperor, had this structure built as a mausoleum for his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. He instructed us to gather at a specific location. He had said that if he died, he wanted to be buried next to her. The two tombs were consequently put side by side inside the mausoleum.

We walked about admiring the incredible beauty and marvelling at the skillful craftsmanship of the exquisite sculptures. We wondered how talented those hands had to be to have produced such a beautiful work of art. After taking a quick glance at the Taj Mahal, we turned to face the full moon in the sky. The Taj Mahal was just as beautiful to look at as the moon in the sky.

River Yamuna

On the reverse side of this spectacular structure, the River Yamuna flows. It seems as though the Yamuna washed this magnificent wonder's feet out of a deep sense of gratitude. We simply rejoiced and wondered as we walked around this monument for two hours.
