Vlad spent 20 minutes on his history homework and then completely solved x math problems that each took 2 minutes to complete. What is the equation that can be used to find the value of y, the total time that Vlad spent on his homework, and what are the constraints on the values of x and y?

a) y=2x+20; x is any integer greater than or equal to 0, and y is an integer greater than or equal to 20.b) y=2x+20; x is any real number greater than or equal to 0, and y is any real number greater than or equal to 20.c) y=20x+2; x is any integer greater than or equal to 0, and y is an integer greater than or equal to 20.d) y=20x +2; x is any real number greater than or equal to 0, and y is any real number greater than or equal to 20.

y = 2x+20; x and y is real number in which x is greater than or equal to 0, and y is greater than or equal to 20.

Solution:

Time spent by Vlad on his history homework is equal to 20 minutes.

Total amount of math problem is equal to x and it took Vlad to complete a single problem in 2 minutes. The total amount of time taken to complete x problem is 2x.

Total time spent by Vlad to complete the homework = Time taken to complete the math homework + time taken to complete history homework.

Total time spent by Vlad to complete the homework = ( y = 2x + 20);

Option B and D are wrong as the number of time allotted for maths homework is 2x not 20x, in A and B. Option B is Correct as number of problem can only be real number, whereas integer contains rational fractions, decimals which can’t be the number of problems.

Therefore, Option B is correct.
