Shifting cultivation is a type of cultivation in which the people do their cultivation on a small part of land by clearing the land for sometime but when they observe that the land has lost its fertility then they moved to the another field where they clear the land by felling the trees and burn them . It increases the fertility and make the land useful for cultivation.

Mainly the tribal people practice the shifting cultivation.

This type of cultivation is also known as slash and burn cultivation or jhumming cultivation.
