Step-by-step explanation:

Given A tent is cylindrical to a height of 4.8 m. and conical above it. The radius of the base is  4.5 m. and total height of the tent is 10.8 m. Find the approximate canvas required for the tent in square metres.

  • Given radius of cone and cylindrical part is 4.5 cm
  • Height of cylinder = 4.8 cm
  • So height of cone = 10.8 – 4.8 = 6 cm
  • So lateral side of cone L^2 = 36 + 20.25
  • Therefore L^2 = 56.25
  • Or L = 7.5 cm
  • Now canvas required for tent is curved surface area of cylinder + curved surface area of cone
  •                                            = 2 πrh + π r L
  •                                         = 2 π x 4.5 x 4.8 + π x 4.5 x 7.5
  •                                         = π (43.2 + 33.75)
  •                                        = 3.14 x 77.25
  •                                        = 242.565 cm^2

Figure provided in the above attachment.

Given:

  • Radius of cone and cylinder part = 4.5 cm
  • Height of cylinder = 4.8 cm

Height of cone = 10.8 - 4.8 = 6 cm

Lateral side of cone = L² = 62 + 4.52

L² = 36 + 20.25

L² = 56.25

L = 7.5 cm

Canvas required for tent = Curved surface area of cylinder + curved surface area of cone.

= 2π × 4.5 × 4.8 + π × 4.5 × 7.5

= π(43.2 + 33.75)

= 3.14 × 77.25

= 242.56 cm²
