When the pressure expansion coefficient of a gas = 1/273 K −1 , It means that the increase in pressure of the gas per unit pressure at 0° C when the temperature increases 1° C at constant volume = 1/273 of the original volume .

Volume coefficient is derived from ideal gas equation
Explanation:
- Volume coefficient of a gas is derived from the ideal gas equation.
- Ideal gas equation-PV=nRT;
where P-Pressure,V-Volume,n-Amount of substance,R-Ideal gas constant,T-Temperature.
- So,we can see that Volume is directly proportional to Temperature(Kelvin).
V∝ T
- Hence,for a increase in temperature from 0 degree celsius to 1 degree celsius ,there will be an increase in temperature from 273 to 274 Kelvin.
- Therefore the volume change will be from V to (274/273).This may be written as (1+(1/273))V.
- So, there is an increase of 1/273V and so it is known as Volume Coefficient.
