Volume of an object is 40 cm^3 and the mass is 20 g. Density of water is 1 g/cm^3 Will the object float or sink in water? Explain.​

density of the object=\frac{mass of the object}{volume of the object}

                               =\frac{20}{40}

                               =0.5 g/cm³

For your information:-

  • If density of object is more than that of the water, then it'll sink
  • If density of object is less than that of the other. then it'll float
  • If density of object and water are equal, then it'll remain in equilibrium at every depth. (no need to think much about this point as it's from class 11th)

As density of object here is less than 1g/cm³, it will float.
