Answer:

Voting is a fundamental right of every citizen that enables them to choose their future leader. Voting is not merely a process of selecting a leader, it is also a process that helps us realise the importance of being a citizen. Any person who has reached 18 years of age is eligible to cast a vote and contribute towards the smooth functioning of democracy. Innumerable programmes are conducted to make people understand and appreciate the importance of voting, but still, many do not go out to vote as they believe that one vote will not make any difference. Yet, it does help in building the political foundation; in fact, each and every vote counts! There is a reason why the right to vote should be given and exercised equally – irrespective of sex, class, occupation etc.

Many people seem to have developed a mindset — what is the benefit of voting? Voting is a basic process that keeps a nation’s governmental system working. It allows the people to choose their representatives in the government. It offers every citizen a medium of expression. Voting is not only a right, it is our responsibility.

While we do know that the votes can be manipulated, to eradicate this problem the Election Commission has a solution– VVPAT (voter verified paper audit trial) is being used in this general election.

If we vote, then we have the right to criticise the government or raise our voice against what we deem unfair or unjust, but if we do not vote we lose that right too. Therefore, we should stop considering voting day as a holiday, rather we should consider it as the one day we lay down for our country.
