Let, the no. of pages left be x

<font color = blue>

total pages in the novel = 286 pages

3/11 + 5/8 + x = 286 pages

24 + 55/88 + x = 286 pages

79/88 + x = 286 pages

x = 286/1 - 79/88 pages

x = 25,168 - 79/88

x = 25,089/88

x = 285 pages

<font color = red>

285 pages were left in novel.
