Explanation:

Two brothers had a lucky escape at Devinder Vihar crossing in Sector 56 when a tree and railings near their shop stopped a speeding car from crushing them after an accident on Tuesday morning.

A speeding Maruti Swift Dzire crashed onto the pavement at the crossing around 1am on Tuesday after the driver lost control. The vehicle got stuck on the railing next to a their makeshift flower shop near which the two boys were sleeping.

“I heard a loud thud and opened my eyes to see a car lying tilted on the railing adjacent to us. I got up and woke my brother up, and we rushed to the road as we thought the car might fall down. We had a narrow escape. Without the tree and the railing, the car would have crushed me and my younger brother,” Umesh,18, said.

Their father, Munna Lal, 46, a florist, had gone to have dinner. He returned too see people gathered near his shop and the car on the railing.

“I am very lucky that my sons are safe,” Lal said.

Eyewitnesses said there were two cars racing on the road and while trying to overtake, one lost control and hit the pavement.

“I was walking towards Wazirabad village with my friend after finishing work at a construction site. We saw the cars coming towards Sector 56 and suddenly heard a loud noise. We rushed to the spot and saw one of the cars stuck on a railing above the pavement,” Rakesh Kumar, a labourer, said.

The passersby informed police control room and PCR from Sector 56 rushed to the spot. Police took the driver to a hospital.

“We took the driver, Kanwar Lal, 46, to a nearby hospital and his condition is stable. He has suffered minor injuries. We have impounded the other car, a Hyundai i20 car and the investigation is on”

Police have recorded statements of the car drivers and both parties are accusing the other of the accident.
