a. Mostly industries had the demand for labors as seasonal. Because of this labor were agreeing to work even on low wages just as long as they are paid and not unemployed. Because of this most of the population was poor.

b.  Factories used to employ women. As technology improved, even women workers lost their jobs.

c. Workers used to live in slums and their only source of entertainment, rest and fun was streets.
