Given:

An ant started walking inside a, wall clock along the circumference at 12 midnight in clockwise direction. The ant started circling the clock at 4 times the speed of the minute hand. Sometime after 2:30 AM the ant hopped on to the Minute hand when it was able to reach it.

Solution:

  • A clock is usually a circle and hence, is 360°. The degree between every digit from 1 to 12 on the clock is 30°. When the time is 2:30, the hour hand is on 2 and the minute hand is on 6. Thus, the angle between 2 and 6 can be calculated as follows.
  • So now, it is calculated that the angle between 2 and 6 is 120°.

  • Therefore, the angle between Hour hand and Minute hand when the ant hopped on to the Minute hand would have been 120°.
