Hey there!!!
RATE LAW:
---------------------
The equation describing the relationship between the reaction rate and concentration of a reactant or reactants.
--------------------------------
A + B gives product P.
RATE is directly proportional to [A]^alpha [B]^beta
--------------------------------------
Rate = k[A]^alpha [B]^beta
--------------------------------------
where k is a constant which is known as rate constant or specific rate of reaction.
The value of rate constant is dependent only on temperature. Effect of temperature on rate constant can be explained on the basis of Arrhenius equation as,
K= A e^-Ea/RT
where ,
•k= rate constant,
•A= Arrhenius constant or pre exponential factor or frequency factor,
•Ea= energy of activation,
• T = Kelvin temperature,
• R = Universal gas constant,
• e^ -Ea/RT= Boltzman factor.
It does not depend on the concentration of reactants.
alpha and beta are the order of reaction with respect to A and B respectively.
And alpha + beta is the overall order of the reaction.
