\bold{Short\:circuit:-}

1. Short circuit occurs when live wire comes in \bold{contact} with neutral wire.

2. \bold{High\:amount} of current flows through the circuit.

3. The potential difference at the point of short-circuiting will \bold{drop\:to\:zero.}

\bold{Overloading:-}

1. Overloading occurs when large number of appliances are turned on \bold{simultaneously.}

2. \bold{Low\:amount} of current flows through the circuit as compared to short-circuit.

3. The potential difference \bold{does\:not} drop to zero but it does reduce.

\bold{Precautions\:(Overloading):-}

(i) Too many appliances should never be connected to a \bold{single\:socket.}

(ii) A fuse of \bold{appropriate} current rating should be used with the electric circuit.
