No, but he wanted to.
It is just the western perception that we adopt towards history that makes most of us believe Alexander to be a World Conqueror, wherein the evidences we have do not support it.

Alexander conquered most of the known world. He had plans for further conquests but his premature death prevented their fruition.

There have been attempts to proclaim that he lost the battle of Hydaspes against King Porus but the historical evidence, till date, doesn’t support it. In the absence of credible material, I think it is more of a flight of fancy. The battle of Hydaspes was a tough one but in almost all probability, Alexander did defeat Porus.
