No, there was no balcony. Ausable said about a balcony so that Max would decide to step there to wait until the police (Ausable said that police was waiting outside to frighten Max. The said so police was actually the waiter of the hotel) goes out of the room. Ausable used the nuisance of a balcony. Max stepped there, fell down and died.
