Was ist deine E-Mail?

Explanation:

Languages can communicate the same information, but they don't have to do it in the same way. "Wie" means "how" and "was" means "what". In general, you can translate them that way, but there are also some special cases, as you have noticed yourself.

The literal translation of "What is your email address?" is "Was ist deine E-Mail Adresse?", but in German you ask "Wie ist deine E-Mail Adresse?". Greek has another logic: In this question we would use "Which is ... ?". I don't think that there are any rules about this.

Another case is when asking for names. In English you say "What is your name?", which literally is "Was ist dein Name?", but the German equivalent is "Wie ist dein Name?" ("How is your name?") or "Wie heißt du?" ("How are you called?). By the way, I think that "Wie heißt du?" is much more common as compared to "Wie ist dein Name?".

hope it helps
