Religious reasons played an important role in the eruption of the war of independence 1857. The preaching of Christianity was causing unrest among Indians. Both the Hindus and Muslims felt that Christian priests were free to preach Christianity and they were supported by their government. Free education and free medical was a good initiative for some Indians to convert to Christianity. In 1838, Indian troops were sent to Afghanistan. Both Muslims and Hindus did not like this policy because Muslims did not want to fight against their Muslim brothers and for Hindus it was against their religion to leave India.
