Answer:
From one point of view, the Civil War was definitely worth its costs. The Civil War was the war that ended slavery and preserved the Union. Without it, the United States would not be the same today. We would still have slave states and free states and the whole country would be torn over the issue of slavery.
On the other hand, the Civil War would not be worth its costs if you believed that human lives were more important than the outcome of the war. In order to get what you want, you have to make sacrifices. In this case, the sacrifices were humans out on the battlefields. The Union fought with 2,128,948 soldiers and the Confederacy fought with 1,082,119 soldiers. Of these 3,211,067 soldiers, there were approximately 620,000 deaths from combat, accident, starvation, and disease.
I think the Civil War was definitely worth the lives that were lost because without them, the country would still be a terrible mess today.
