Modern period is generally referred as the British period/era in India which sought to glorify the British rule in India and provides for modern basis of society in the country based on modern secular education system, based on the principles of rule of law, equality, administrative structure etc. However to say that whether modern period was really modern for India is highly debatable because of the reasons:
a. The British rule in India did not apply modern principles of rule of law, equality before law to Indians and followed the policy of racial discrimination.
b. They brought about drain of wealth, did not give encouragement to local industries.
c. The British period did not witnesses and economic growth and progress.
d. They completely impoverished agriculture.
e. Even in the administrative structure all high positions were reserved for Europeans.
