valley is his final sleep. In other words, the poet is lying dead in the valley

and nothing including the humming insects can wake him up from this sleep.

The young soldier is lying open-mouthed with the smile of an infant on his face making it appear as if he is enjoying a blissful sleep. His head is resting on a fern pillow while he is lying on a bed made of warm green grass. One hand is resting on his breast where he has been shot twice.
