Covalent bonds are strong and directional in nature, therefore atoms are held very strongly at their positions. Such solids are very hard and brittle. They have extremely highmelting points and may evendecompose before melting. They are insulators and do not conduct electricity.

Lavoiser Laplace law states that "The energy change accompanying any transformation is equal and opposite to energy change accompanying the reverse process."

This means that if any reaction is exothermic then the reverse of it is endothermic and vice versa.

for eg:- 2Cl -------> Cl2 is exothermic but Cl2 -----------> 2Cl is endothermic
