The main aim of Civil Disobedience Movement was to break the unjust salt law non-violently by defying the Salt Act. As Salt Act prohibited Indians from collecting and selling salt, everyone had to pay tax on the purchase of salt. Salt tax would became a common cause for all sections of Indians as it was an essential item and affected everybody. Hence to abolish it, in 1930 the Congress launched the Civil Disobedience Movement under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi.
