Immediate cause of revolt of 1857 was : the soldiers of the native infantry were to bit the greased cartiged to load the Enfield rifles and this got flesh of the pig in it and pig was considered sacred by the muslims and it was against Hindu religion to eat the pig. Others reasons include collapsing the economy and handicrafts market and interference in social cultural activities by the east India company.
