water as ice has a cooling effect, whereas water as steam may cause sevre burns. explain these observations.

Water as ice gives cooling due to the latent heat of fusion. all the surrounding heat energy is involved in breaking down the force of attraction between the particles of ice. So it gives cooling.
Water as stream gives severe burns because when the temperature of water reaches 100 degree Celsius it starts to change into vapours and the temperature of the vapours of steam is hence high. So it gives severe burns
