Glass containers are classified according to their resistance to chemical attack, a test executed by heating the glass in contact with water for 30 min at 121 degrees C. The USP powdered glass test for glass containers was applied to different kinds of glasses used as containers for parenteral formulations.

Answer:

  1. Rinse 3 or more containers with high pirity water.
  2. Fill each container to 90% of it's over flow capacity.
  3. Cap all the flasks and autociave for 60 min.
  4. Empty the contents and cool the contents in 250 ml conical flasks to a volume of 100 ml.
  5. Add 5 drops of methyl red solution.
  6. Titrate with 0.02N sulphuric acid consumed.
  7. Volume should not exceed as indicated in USP as for type of glasses.
