The USP powdered glass test for glass containers was applied to different kinds of glasses used as containers for parenteral formulations.

- Rinse 3 or more containers with high pirity water.
- Fill each container to 90% of it's over flow capacity.
- Cap all the flasks and autociave for 60 min.
- Empty the contents and cool the contents in 250 ml conical flasks to a volume of 100 ml.
- Add 5 drops of methyl red solution.
- Titrate with 0.02N sulphuric acid consumed.
- Volume should not exceed as indicated in USP as for type of glasses.
