Answer:

A decrease of the top temperature increased the water density in that layer , which is responsible for the growth of a mixing layer of uniform density . In the course of the night the temperature of the mixing layer decreases gradually and, as a consequence , the depth of the mixing layer also increases

Water bodies reduce the temperature variations.

Explanation:

  • The diurnal temperature variations are caused by high and low temperatures.
  • As the water body is relatively small it has seasonal variations as it does not allow for the heat or the cod to remain trapped for a very long time as compared to landmass that heats up and cools quickly.
  • The day temperature on landmass is hot and that of the water is warm due to the presence of layers and hence they may lower the temperature by the sea breeze and may increase the humidity factor.
  • On another hand if the water body has a high temperature as on night time the presence of the land breeze helps to balance.
