Water drops are falling regularly at a constant interval of 1s from a tap. If the total time taken by a drop to strike the ground is 5s, find the distance between the 2nd and the 3rd drop when the 1st drop hits the ground?

Answer:

35 m

Explanation:

Given Water drops are falling regularly at a constant interval of 1 s from a tap. If the total time taken by a drop to strike the ground is 5 s, find the distance between the 2nd and the 3rd drop when the 1st drop hits the ground?

We are given water drops at an interval of 1 s from a tap. It will be 5s to strike the ground and initial velocity u is zero.

So distance travelled by the first drop will be

S = ut + 1/2 gt^2

S = 1/2 gt^2 (since u = 0)

S = 1/2  x 10 x 5^2

S = 125 m

Now for 2nd drop will be

S = 1/2 gt^2

S = 1/2 x 10 x 4^2

S = 80 m

Again for the 3rd drop we have

S = 1/2 gt^2

S = 1/2 x 10 x 3^2

S = 45 m

Therefore distance between 2nd and 3rd drop will be

80 - 45 = 35 m
