Water flows at the rate of 4 liter per second through an
orifice at the bottom of lake which contains water 720 cm
deep. Find the rate of escape of water if additional perssure
of 16 kg/cm² is applied at the surface of water.

Answer:

Given :

h = 720 cm

V = √ ( 2 g h )

V = √ ( 2 × 980 × 720 )

V = 4 litres / sec

Additional pressure = 16 kg / cm² = 16000 g / cm²

Now :

16000 g / cm² = ( 16000 × 980 ) / ( 980 ) cm of water

= > 16000 cm of water .

Pressure head = h₁ = 16000 + 720 = 16720 cm

New velocity :

v₁ = √ ( 2 g h₁ )

v₁ = √ ( 2 × 980 × 16720 )

V = a v₁ and V₁ = a v₁

= > V₁ = V ( v₁ / v )

V₁ = √ ( 16720 / 720 )

V₁ =  √ ( 1672 / 72 ) litres / sec

V₁ = 19.28 litres / sec

Therefore ,  rate of escape of water is 19.28 litres / sec
