Assume the mass of water = m
Height of water h = 50 m
g = 10 m/s2
Energy of water (E) = mgh
= m (10) (50)
E = (500 m) J ...(i)
This amount of energy is converted into heat
E = ΔQ
E = msΔT ...(ii)
Also, s = 4200 J/(kg –°C)
From equation (i) and (ii)
500 m = ms∆ T
∆ T = 0.12 °C
