' water is a significant natural resource ' . Explain the statement with suitable examples
Answers
Answer:
Water resources are sources of water that are useful or potentially useful to humans. It is important because it is needed for life to exist. Many uses of water include agricultural, industrial, household, recreational and environmental activities. Virtually all of these human uses require fresh water.
Example:
Surface water resources: lakes, streams, rivers are classified under this class. Lakes are stagnant water bodies. Streams and rivers are running water bodies. Oxygenation (from air) occurs easily in running water bodies.
Groundwater resources: they are classified under confined and unconfined aquifers. You need to dig a well to reach water.
There are other sources such as icebergs. They are not everywhere and some are melting due to global climate change. Some people visit mountain tops to bring ice to hot cities (for example in southern Turkey). This is an economic activity.
