Given : radius = 14 cm

water level is 3 cm below the top

when iron ball dropped 300 cm3 water

Flowed out

To find : Radius of the ball

Solution :

1. The cylinder has radius 14 cm the water is 3 cm below the top

therefore , A new cylinder is formed with a radius of 14 cm and height 3 c.

1. Volume of new cylinder = πr2h

= 22 ÷ 7 × 14 × 14 × 3

= 1848 cm3

2. Volume of iron ball = volume of new cylinder +

water flowed out

= 1848 + 300

= 2148 cm3

3. Volume of ball = 4 ÷ 3 × π × r3

2148 = 4÷3 × 22÷7 ×r3

2148 × 3 × 7 ÷ 4 × 22 = r 3

r 3 = 512.5909

r = 8.009 Approximately
