Water is flowing into a water tank at the rate of 10 cubic centimeters per second. If the vo lume of water collected in t seconds is V cubic centimeters, write a linear equation to represent the above staterment. (i) Draw the graph of the linear equation. (ii) From the graph find the volume of water collected in the tank after 4 seconds.

The linear equation to represent this relationship is :
V is a function of time.
Every one second we have 10cm³ flowing in.
So at any t second the amount we have is :
V(t) = 10t
To plot a graph we can have values of t from 0 to 5
When t = 0 V = 0
When t = 1 V = 10
When t = 2 V = 20
When t = 3 V = 30
When t = 4 V = 40
When t = 5 V = 50
V will be on the y axis and the values of t will be on the x axis since V is a function of t.
V is in cm³ and t is in seconds
Therefore when we plot these points on the graph we get a straight line passing through the origin.
The value of V at time 4 seconds is thus :
= 40 cm³
