Water is flowing through a horizontal tube of non-uniform cross-section. At a place, the radius of the tube is 1.0cm and the velocity of water is 2m//s. What will be the velocity of water where the radius of the pipe is 2.0 cm?

Water is flowing through a horizontal tube of non-uniform cross-section.The velocity of water when the radius of pipe is 2cm is 0.5 m/s

  • Let us go through the given parameters in the problem

        Radius of the pipe 1 (r1) =1 cm

       Velocity of pipe 1 (v1) = 2 m/s

       Radius of the pipe 2 (r2) = 2 cm

  • From CONTINUITY EQUATION

                A1v1 = A2v2

                v2 = (A1/A2)×v2

                     =(πr1²/πr2²)×v2

                     = (r1/r2)²×v2

  • Substituting the values, we get v2= (1×10^-2/2×10^-2)²×2

                                                             v2  =0.5 m/s

  • The velocity of water when the radius of pipe is 2cm is 0.5 m/s
