When water is added to an acid then it releases large amount of heat as it leads to an exothermic reaction. This heat can harm the person. Thus for safety purpose water is never added to acid.

Water is never added to acid because
this causes a exothermic reaction which may lead to breaking of test tube, coming out of acid from tube, burning of hand (if acid comes in touch) etc. Thus water is not poured into acid rather acid is slowly poured in water
