Water is one of the most important natural resource. Life cannot be imagined without water, but
clean and adequate water is still not accessible to most of the people in India. With the rising
population there has been an increasing pressure on this earth's resource. Scientists believe that by
2050 there will be a 30 percent decrease in the availability of water per person. Scarcity of water has
been felt throughout the country. Effort have been made to collect water by building dams. Wells
have also been dug to create ground water structure. But that is not enough. Wise conservation of
water is needed. One of the most popular ways of conservation is rain water harvesting. It means
collecting rain water on the roofs of buildings and storing it underground for later use. This method
can raise the level of ground water and also increase water supply. Another method is waste water
harvesting. Water from kitchens and bathrooms is collected and cleaned. It can then be used for
purposes other than drinking.
