Water is pumped from a stream at the rate of 90kg every 30s and sprayed unto a farm at a velocity of 15m/s. Calculate the power of the pump.

time taken= 30sec

velocity of pumped out water=15m/s

now work done to pump out the water=change in kinetic energy of water

W=1/2Mv²-Mu²

W=1/2M(v²-)

W=1/2(90)*(15²-0²) ( since u =0)

W=45*255

W=10,125J

now power is given by

P=W/T

P=10125/30

P=337.5Watt

or in horse power

1HP=746watt so

P=337.5/746=0.46HP
