Water sprinkler used for grass lawns begins to rotate as soon as as the water is supplied. Explain the principle on which it works.

The rotation of the sprinkler is explained on the basis of Newton's 3rd Law. As soon as water comes out of the nozzle of the sprinkler, it exerts an equal force on the nozzle in opposite direction. And the sprinkler starts rotating.

It is based on newtons 3rd law for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
As the water comes out of the sprinkler an equal and opposites force comes in to play hence the sprinkler starts rotating
