Root cells are in contact with water and minerals present in the soil. Due to diffrence in concentration, water molecules and minerals enter the cells of roots. The cell at the surface becomes turgid and exert pressure on the neighbouring cells called as root pressure.
The mineral and water reach the root xylem and is further pushed to eliminate the difference. This steady movement creates a column of water that is steadily pushed upwards .
