water was boiled in a vessel for 10 min during this temperature was measured by laboratory thermometer serval times. which came 100 degree C each time.why would this have happened when the water was heated by constant heating?

Answer:

This due latent heat of evaporation. As of this phenomena all the heat is absorbed in the change of state of water into gas. This is why temperature is constant during boiling and when it gets converted into gas only then the temperature gradually rises.

The temperature was constant during the boiling process, because -

• During the boiling process the liquid water turns into gaseous vapour. So,a change of physical state happens.

• For the above mentioned change of physical state, the water needs certain amount of energy which is known as the latent heat for evaporation.

• So,all the heat energy which is provided during the boiling process is only the latent heat of evaporation. This latent heat of evaporation is only for changing the physical state of the water and temperature change isn't the role of this heat energy.

• That's why the temperature remains constant (ie.100°C).
