when they were between the sea, everywhere water was there but not a single drop to drink

The ancient mariner was in the middle of a vast sea were he couldn't see land even upto the limit of his eye. He was in the middle of the sea with the scorching sun above his head all day long and it is irony to note that he had so much water around him but not a single drop was edible.
