Wavelength of radiation emitted when an electron jumps from a state A to C is 2000 Angstrom and it is 6000 Angstrom when the electron jumps from state B to state C . What will be Wavelength of the radiations emitted when an electron jumps from state A to B.

Answer:

3000A

Explanation:

A->C

E=12400/2000=6.2 eV

(You can even use E=hc/lambda but this will directly give the energy in eV)

B->C

E=12400/6000=2.07 eV

So, the energy for transition from A to B would the difference of these both.

A->B

E=6.2-2.07=4.13 eV

4.13=12400/lambda

Wavelength of the radiations would be nearly 3000A
