Waves associated with electrons are referred to as matter waves. Since electrons possess wave-like property, so when a beam of electrons is diffracted then electrons attain some momentum which causes them to form a wave.
The phenomenon is called as de Broglie hypothesis, and the formula is λ=h/p where λ is electron's wavelength, h is Plank's constant and p is the momentum of electrons.
