The senior US Air Force colonel Pamela Anne Melroy is a former NASA astronaut. When she departed the department in August 2009 her pilots were STS-92 and STS-112, and her order was STS-120. In December 1994, selected as NASA nominee for astronaut, Melroy returned in March 1995 to Johnson Space Center. A year of testing and assessment was completed & she was certified as a shuttle pilot for flight assignments. She also worked with the Astronaut Office on advanced tasks originally delegated to astronaut support roles with launch & landing.
