Answer:

Efforts are being made to promote tourism and adventure sports in a big way in a move to make Jammu and Kashmir one of the most popular destinations globally. Advisor to Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor K K Sharma said this while speaking at an event organised by the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering at Gulmarg.

He said that the Union Territory is replete with all the necessary topographical and geographical features that are necessary to promote tourism, adventure sports, and the requisite mechanism needs to be put into place. Further elaborating on this, he said that several fairs and promotional activities have been conducted recently in different parts of the country to ensure that the inflow of tourists in part of the country gets a boost. He added that this would help to contribute to the economy of this region as well as generate employment opportunities for the locals and skilled youth.

Also, apart from providing training to the youths of the country, the advisor complimented the institute for organising the skiing events, He also mentioned how these events will help to acquaint people from other states with those of the Union Territories, which would further enable a valuable exchange of ideas and cultures.

It is also expected that the tourism sector will likely grow as there seems like more and more domestic and international tourists are arriving at ski resorts in Gulmarg in north Kashmir. Although this area had been severely affected since the region was scrapped off the special status, it is only recently that Gulmarg, which has been hit by snow, has now started attracting tourists and local people. As per the sources, 100 per cent bookings have also been witnessed in all resorts and local hotels from the first day of the new year.
