We all know that honesty is a great virtue and not a policy. An inbuilt mechanism, which is devised,
after a lot of thinking with a view to achieving success in a particular mission, is what the policy
stands for. It is objective centric. Honesty on the contrary is a noble, practical idea without any
cunningness. Honesty is a health tonic too.
The blood pressure and the sugar level of an honest person seldom fluctuate. Honesty is infectious
as it starts a chain reaction of honest acts and takes all into its honest embrace.
A small incident that emphasizes the value of honesty: Once, a friend told me that he never
attempted to evade tax. He always paid it with a smile. When he was asked to state the reason for
paying all the taxes, he only gave a big smile. When he was further pressurised to state the reason
for doing something, which reduced his income, he said that the big smile that normally remains on
his face was the result of his pure and honest life that he was leading.
His words left a deep impact on my mind. That day, I did not let a fake currency note I got from
somebody, find its way to the market. My little honest act, motivated by the big smile of my honest
friend, brought a smile to my face too.
Macbeth, the great Shakespearean character, did not follow the rule of honesty and cheated his
master that finally led to problems in his life. The Kauravas paid a heavy price for their dishonesty
and the great warrior Karna had to suffer owing to his being a key strategist in plotting the killing of
Abhimanyu, the brave son of Arjun.
Honesty is a great face wash. It brings a great glow on one‟s face. This face wash clears both the
body and mind off the pimples of corruption and protects them from the attacks of bad waves of
dishonesty that otherwise disfigures life.
