Well we are living in a 3D space Cartesian system.

Wow you now have your answer but now lets consider something else.

Consider you went to a metropolitan city to meet your friend . He told you that he will meet you in a building and hence told you the complete address, To go to that building you travelled in North and South direction hence you travelled some distance in the y-axis. You also turned into east-west direction hence you also travelled some distance in the x-axis and now you you have reached the building and in the end you went to the 5th floor of the building to meet your friend and hence covered some distance in z-axis.

But will you be able to meet your friend…??

I don't think so, because he didn't told you at what time he will reach there. Hence a 4th dimension could exist which will help in locating any point in space. Where this 4th axis will be the time axis. Hence we can say we live in a 4D space system.
